  2. After the sweeping success of the first concert suite drawn from Ibsen's Peer Gynt it is not at all surprising that both the public and Edvard Grieg's publisher cried out for a second installment. While Grieg had already selected four of the finest numbers from the score's total of twenty-two, he had little trouble drawing up a second very effective concert suite. the Peer Gynt Suite No.2, Op.
  3. Dec 19,  · Congratulations for your daughter! I can't be helpful strictly regarding your question (all Peer Gynt's I have are in CD format), but I would say that the actual Solveig song, performed by the soprano Barbara Bonney on the Neeme Jarvi set is among the most beautiful vocal performances I ever heard (in the Oivin Fjelstad recording this piece is only an orchestral instrumental, if I'm not mistaken).

  6. Jan 02,  · I don't know what it is with Grieg's Peer Gynt here in Cape Town but it is the single most often found vinyl recordings of over 40 years of letting my fingers fly through record lots for sale. You will find Peer Gynt lurking amongst record lots from flea markets to any imagineable vinyl re-seller up and down our fairest Cape.
  7. To most of the concert-going public, Edvard Grieg is only familiar as the composer of two fabulously popular concert works: the Concerto for piano and orchestra, and the first Orchestral Suite extracted from the incidental music to Henrik Ibsen's play, Peer Gynt. Ever since the Peer Gynt Suite No.1, Op appeared in the late s it has been a staple of the orchestral repertory.
  8. Feb 01,  · Me neither. But I have a compilation on the Deutsche Grammophon label, which is called "Essential Classics" and this version sounds good imo. The original album from which it came, was called Edward Grieg-Peer Gynt , same label and was played by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra/ Neeme Jarvi.
  9. Edvard Grieg: Peer Gynt suites & Sigurd Jorsalfar. Herbert von Karajan, Berliner Philharmoniker. 1 LP DG.
